HISTORY

Xackoy (Khach): Armenian History and Alevi Memory in Tercan (Historic Derjan), Erzincan Province

Why it matters

Xackoy’s history is documented through very different sources: an eleventh-century Armenian chronicle, later place-name records, district-wide Ottoman figures, and present-day Alevi memories. Read together, they establish the village’s place in Derjan’s Armenian history while showing why its specific population and family histories remain difficult to recover.
